They exist a lot of faiths and regional legends that enrich the local folklore and they sharpen the so much of the visitors curiosity, as of the own community. It is worthwhile to know them:
Stone Rests Deceased:
Meets in the high of the hill in the emblem between Bombinhas and Porto Belo, before the opening of the current highway it was the highest point of the old road. When it happened some death in Bombinhass (at that time district of Porto Belo) the body of the died was taken for the only cemetery, that it was of Porto Belo's main Church, and the loaders generally placed on top the coffin of the stone to take breath, before beginning the down hill. According to the people, the place is not well haunted, at midnight, some times, it is heard the song of an owl, and a child's cry, appears a light bunch and noise of cans. The oldest avoided to pass for there, around midnight.
Two Sisters:
They are practically two stones identical, located at the beach of the grave. It is believed that were used by the natives that lived here like points of astronomical or marine reference.
Burrow of the Cable:
They exist two natural shelters that take this name. One meets in the hill, to the Outside right of the beach (4 Ilhas), and the other, in the beach of the Sepultura. Oldest says that was hidden for several years a cable of the imperial army that fought in the War of Paraguay and escaped from the horrors of this war, hiding in these you burrow.
Grotto of the Monk:
As they say appeared in the Island of Arvoredo a man that wear rude and dark clothes, thought that he was a monk. This man was sheltered in an existent grotto in the Island and there he lived for a long time, until that, one day, it disappeared in the same way that arrived, without leaving vestiges. He left the people impressed thinking he was some saint or even a sorcerer. Today still it exists the grotto that, due to the happened, it was well-known as grotto of the Monk.
The Cross of the Praia de Fora:
They say to have been found by two men that were at the beach, they would have been so impressed that decided to stick it well in the place where hey had found it. They count that after that there was in that beach a mullet throw never sees before. Then, inhabitants and fishermen attributed the good luck to the fact of they have stuck the cross. Ever since, every year, on May 03 (today more rarely), some people, mainly the ones that fish mullet in that beach, they adorn, the cross, with flowers and they make small prayers so that there is abundance as before during the fishing of the mullet, whose I begin it happens more or less, for this time. This cross meets in 4 Ilhas (Praia de Fora, as many native they still call it), today she is of concrete, because the original was made of wood and, with passing of the time, its deteriorated.
The Beautiful Girl:
Mrs Erondina (popularly called Mrs Aronda) sad that when she was young, her and a friend called Brígida went for take water in to waterfall and there arriving they saw a "enchants " (visage), as they said. The enchant, was a pretty girl that brought in its hands a flower of awful beauty. Mrs Aronda onlooker wanted go catch the flower, but her friend Brígida, with fear, reminded it to be of one it enchants and that in agreement with the old ones, if somebody diffused or touched the flower in the girl's hands this it would take the place of who tpuched it. Being like this, the two left leaving the such enchant back.
The Mysterious Light of the Chapel:
They say that whenever they finished praying the novenas in the small church one the hill of the cemetery, when everybody had already gone down they looked at upward and they saw a mysterious light in the window of the chapel. Nobody discovered what was but many thought to be of a treasure buried in that local.
The Dream of the Fortune:
Mrs Alexandrina was a old woman that because of its age already very advanced, she always walked arched. Everybody believed that she was a very poor woman, because she walked dressed with very curried clothes. Certain day she died and of there in before they began to see at its house a strange light. Then, a gentleman, called Benjamim Caetano, had a dream with Mrs Alexandrina, where she said that had left a lot of money inside of a pot under the parquet of the house. Mr. Benjamin, very smart, was there and removed the money, leaving the city.
Witches:
The people that say to have seen them affirm that whem they have been sighted they became little bird, butterfly etc. It was habit to protect the small children making medicines to the base of garlic, placing scissors opened under its pillows (mainly in the children that were not baptized). Before, when a newly born child, it was not still baptized, and that it began to lose weight and going meager until its death, the people believed to be witch's disease and the died child's parents placed the crossed coffin in the house door, the first woman that arrived and asked something, it would be the witch coming to take the child's life and, like this, to stay eternally young.
